She’s bulldozed a Sylvester Stallone press conference garbed as ‘Bimbo’ (Rambo’s Siamese twin sister separated at birth), gate crashed a Simply Red band room dressed as Mick Hucknall, and during a Nicole Kidman premiere, asked her fellow flame-haired compatriot: So is “BMX Bandits” your finest work?
Tania Lacy is one of Australia’s best-known comics, lauded for her wicked wit, boots ‘n’ all attitude and salty sketches. She has hosted several Australian television music and youth programs performing sketch comedy and was a regular on national television current affairs and chat shows such as ‘The Today Show’ and ‘A Current Affair’. Several of Lacy’s characters, such as Carlos the Latin Lover and Annette the Librarian are part of the Australian lexicon.
Theatrically her one-woman show ‘All Of Me’ did a sold-out national tour. Her 1997 short film ‘Titsiana Booberini’ screened at Telluride and the Sundance Film Festival and earned her a ‘Best Actress Award’ at the Exposure Film Festival in Brisbane.
In 1997 she was awarded the ‘Nicole Kidman Best Actress Award’ at Australia’s internationally revered Tropfest Short Film Festival, for a short she wrote called ‘Pussy Got Your Tongue?’. The following year her short film ‘Jesus Is Lord’ was a finalist at the Melbourne International Comedy Film Festival. The same year, Tania was also awarded the ‘Best Actress Award’ for her work in ‘Tangerine Dream’ at the Watch My Shorts Film Festival.
